Newark Excellence Network Launched!

photo_11This past weekend, the Trust brought together school leaders, teachers, parents and other educational stakeholders in the community for a retreat focused around the improvement of teaching and learning. These dedicated participants make up part of the first group of the Newark Excellence Network.

The goal is to foster a culture of continuous improvement by focusing on the instructional core, the relationship between the student, teacher and instructional content. We are using the model of Instructional Rounds as a vehicle for authentically working towards our goal. Instructional Rounds is a model developed based on the concept of medical rounds.

This cohort of key stakeholders will be visiting local district and charter public schools in late Spring and early Summer of 2011. From there, they will be working together to find common themes of excellence and establish what the next level of work should be to impact student learning.

Stay tuned for more updates on our progress as we collectively move forward to promote a culture of excellence!
