Shared Campus Grants Announced

Today the Newark Trust for Education, in partnership with Newark Public Schools and the Foundation for Newark's Future, announced $350,000 in grants will be available for the eight shared campuses in Newark.

Each campus will be eligible for grants ranging between $10,000 and $50,000 over the next two years focused on the following three goals: Building relationships and community across schools; planning shared activities for students and families and codifying and promoting promising practices between schools – including joint professional development.

Schools will work together to develop proposals focused on one or all of the following goals.  NET and FNF will support each team and ultimately approve grants for those that promote student achievement for all of the students at the campus.

The Newark Trust is particularly honored to participate in a collaborative effort to ensure that all Newark's children and their families have a positive educational experience. By using research and best practices from across the nation to guide the shared campus initiative, we will help promote schools that not only learn from one another, but provide high quality educational experiences for all of our children.

More than 1,800 children attending seven schools are sharing campuses. This is a tremendous opportunity to give students access to new, high-quality educational options in underutilized district school buildings. The district will also save as much as $4.1 million in facilities costs.

The Shared Campus Grants program will support activities and interventions that promote and foster community building between the schools in each shared campus. A structured partnership between and among schools and school leaders can have a direct positive impact on student achievement. The purpose of this initiative is to build campus communities that foster collaboration, the sharing of “best practices”, and engage parents and families across the campus.

The Shared Campus Grants program is not intended to fund facilities projects and will only fund efforts that are identified, implemented and managed by all school leaders sharing the campus.

You can read more about the grant in our press release and you can download a grant application.
