What is the NET Navigator?
NET Navigator is the first user-friendly online tool that "maps" the external investments supporting Newark, New Jersey's public district and public charter schools. NET Navigator provides information that enables funders, policy makers and community leaders to see where local education investment dollars are coming from, and which programs and organizations these investments are reaching at the school level. Our goal is to, in time, provide a set of data visualization tools that show the relationships between funder investment and student achievement in Newark.
As a Local Education Fund, the Newark Trust advocates for widespread involvement in public education by all sectors and strives to increase the alignment, focus and clarity of current and future education reform efforts in New Jersey.
Newark Public Schools is the largest school system in the state, serving 39,000 students in 74 district schools. Local charter schools serve approximately 6,000 students. The district has been under state receivership since 1995. Currently, schools in Newark are facing low achievement rates. Newark's high schools have a 55% graduation rate, of which 90% of graduates require reading remediation for their incoming freshman year of college.
