November's Message from the President and CEO
In addition to a presidential election and a devastating hurricane, November will be remembered for the contractual agreement between the Newark Teachers Union and the Newark Public School District. In reaching a tentative agreement, Newark Superintendent Cami Anderson and Newark Teachers Union President Joe DelGrosso have demonstrated a remarkable degree of courage and discipline tempered by a shared desire to build a foundation for a vibrant future.
New School Profile: Eagle Academy for Young Men
When the first class of sixth graders started at the new school this fall, they were not allowed to wear ties emblazoned with an eagle emblem on their white, button-down shirts. It was only after they were able to prove to the staff they were indeed worthy.
"You can't just walk into our school and say you are an Eagle, you have to earn that," said Vaughn Thompson, the principal. "The Eagle on your chest is very important."
Eagle is the state's first all-male public school and Thompson is out to prove that the Eagle Model can mold young, inner city boys into successful young men of strong moral character who have the skills needed for success in college and life.

Trust’s Committee of Advocates Focuses on Philanthropy in Education
The meeting kicked off with an overview of education philanthropy including how, in the last 15 years, it has begun to shift away from support for programs and practices to more aggressive advocacy and systemic reform.
The overview was followed by the highly anticipated demonstration of the Trust's NET Navigator, an on-line tool that enables users to track external investments by funder, program, school and ward.
